School Clubs

Welcome to our School Clubs Page.

At The Bellbird we think that clubs are a fantastic way for children to try new activities or develop existing skills. Some of our clubs are provided free of charge (run by staff or parents who very kindly volunteer their time) others have a cost where coaches have been bought in to lead clubs.

Autumn Term After-School Clubs

Day School-run Clubs Premier Sports Clubs
Monday Y5/6 Netball – Mr Pauley
Tuesday KS1 Gymnastics – Mr Pauley KS2 Football
Wednesday Y4/5 Tag Rugby – Mr Pauley Y3/4 Gymnastics
Thursday KS2 Girls Football – Mr Pauley Y1–6 Dodgeball
Friday KS1 Multi-sports – Mr Pauley
KS2 Cross-country – Mr Puxley

The Cross-country Club, introduced and led by Mr Puxley, attracts a strong number of participants and is fostering enthusiasm for running and endurance activities. This club (and the additional training provided by Mr Pauley) will prepare our pupils for the November cross-country event to be held at The Bellbird.

Lunchtime and Pupil-Led Enrichment
In addition to the after-school programme, a daily lunchtime sports club is also run by Mr Pauley. This provision, funded through the Sports Premium, offers a range of activities including dodgeball, tennis, and weekly cross-country running. These sessions have been extremely popular with pupils and have had a positive impact on behaviour at lunchtime as children are more actively engaged and have constructive opportunities to take part in organised physical activity.

There is also a Coding Club run by Yusuf, a parent helper, which has proved a valuable addition to the school’s enrichment offer this year. Later in the academic year we hope that Miss Alyce Grimshaw will once again run her popular Drawing Club, as she did successfully last year.

Wider Enrichment Offer
Alongside the sports and pupil-led clubs, the school continues to promote a wider offer of enrichment activities. The website lists a variety of clubs that take place across the year such as: KS2 Choir (which perform every other year at the Young Voices concert at The O₂), Netball, Football, Gymnastics, Contemporary Dance, Gardening, Coding, Film Club and Drama Club. thebellbird.cambs.sch.uk

Y6 Lunchtime clubs

In addition to the adult-run clubs, the Year 6 pupils, under the guidance and leadership of Mrs Terri Collins, have taken on responsibility for running their own lunchtime clubs. We are passionate that all children should be able to access clubs should they want to and so have had many clubs across the year that take place at lunchtime. These clubs are run by our year 6 children and provide a great opportunity for them to develop their leadership skills and confidence. Lunchtime clubs are rotated to give as many of our Y6s as possible the chance to lead a club. Clubs that will be offered this year will include:

History club; Board Game club; Aesthetic DIY club (art and craft) 2; Football knowledge club; Football drawing club; Craft Club 3; Drama club; Creature club & Slime club

Children will be informed about current clubs in school and can sign up by informing their teachers which club they would like to attend.

We believe that clubs offer the children experiences that enrich and support their learning across the curriculum so if any of you have any ideas for other opportunities, please come and speak to us!
